Warranties

What your warranty actually covers

You get two: a 5-year craftsmanship warranty from us, and manufacturer coverage on the materials running up to 20 years. Here is what each one actually covers, in plain language.

Two warranties

You need both, and they are not the same

Manufacturer material warranty

Issued by the shingle manufacturer. Covers defects in the product itself.

  • Comes from GAF, Owens Corning, CertainTeed, or whichever brand is installed
  • Length and coverage tier depend on the product and the installer’s certification
  • Usually prorated after an initial non-prorated period
  • Must be registered — do not skip this
  • Often transferable once to a buyer, sometimes with a fee and deadline

Our 5-year craftsmanship warranty

Issued by us. Covers the installation — the part the manufacturer will not touch.

  • Covers leaks and failures caused by how the roof was installed, for 5 years
  • Includes flashing, fastening, underlayment, and penetration detailing
  • Delivered in writing at the end of the job, in plain language
  • Only as good as the company behind it — which is why local matters
  • Call us first if you have a problem, before any other contractor touches the roof

5

Years of craftsmanship coverage

From us, on the installation itself. If the roof leaks because of how it was put on, we come back and fix it. No proration, no argument about whether it counts.

up to 20

Years of manufacturer coverage

On the materials, from the shingle manufacturer. The exact term depends on the product line you choose — we will tell you which tier your roof qualifies for before you sign anything.

Read the fine print

What “lifetime” really means

It is the most misunderstood word in roofing, and the misunderstanding is not accidental.

A "lifetime" shingle warranty generally means the expected service life of the product for the original owner — not your lifetime, and typically not the next owner's. Coverage is usually non-prorated for an initial period, often around ten years, after which the amount the manufacturer will pay declines substantially each year.

Enhanced warranties, the ones that stay non-prorated far longer and cover labor as well as materials, generally require installation by a contractor holding that manufacturer's top certification, using a full system of that manufacturer's components. That is the real reason certifications matter — not the badge, but the warranty tier it unlocks.

None of this is a reason to distrust the warranty. It is a reason to read the actual document and know what you have, rather than relying on the word on the brochure.

It is also why we quote our own number plainly. Manufacturer coverage on the systems we install runs up to20 years depending on the product line, and our craftsmanship warranty is a flat 5 years. Two real numbers you can hold us to, rather than one word that means less than it sounds like.

Questions

Warranty questions

What exactly do you offer?
A 5-year craftsmanship warranty from us on the installation, plus the manufacturer warranty on the materials, which runs up to 20 years depending on the product line. You get both in writing at the end of the job.
What is the difference between a material and a workmanship warranty?
The material warranty comes from the shingle manufacturer and covers defects in the product itself. The workmanship warranty comes from the roofer and covers installation errors. They are separate documents from separate companies, and a roof needs both — a manufacturer will not cover a leak caused by bad flashing work.
What voids a roof warranty?
The most common causes are installation that departs from manufacturer specification, inadequate attic ventilation, laying new shingles over old ones, and later work by another contractor who penetrates the roof improperly — satellite dish installers are a frequent culprit. Failing to register the manufacturer warranty can also limit coverage.
Is my warranty transferable if I sell the house?
Manufacturer warranties are often transferable once, sometimes with a fee and a deadline after the sale. Terms vary by manufacturer and by warranty tier, so check your specific documents. A transferable warranty is a genuine selling point worth mentioning in a listing.
What does a "lifetime" shingle warranty actually mean?
Usually not what it sounds like. "Lifetime" typically means the expected service life of the product for the original owner, and coverage is generally prorated — declining substantially after an initial non-prorated period, often ten years. Read the actual term, because the headline word is doing marketing work.
Do I need to do anything to keep my warranty valid?
Register the manufacturer warranty, keep your paperwork, keep gutters clear so water is not backing up under the shingles, and call us before letting anyone else penetrate the roof. That is genuinely most of it.
