About us
A roofing company, first
We do siding, gutters, and exterior painting. But roofing is the trade this company is built around, and it is where the overwhelming majority of our work happens.
Why "Old North State"
North Carolina has been called the Old North State since it split from South Carolina in 1712 — the older of the two Carolinas, hence the name. The logo says the same thing three ways: a roofline, a cardinal, and a dogwood blossom — the state bird and the state flower, sheltered under a roof.
We picked it because it says the thing that actually matters when you are choosing a roofer. We are from here — Charlotte and the towns around it are where we work and where we stay. When your workmanship warranty needs honoring in year four, we will be a phone call away rather than a company that followed a hailstorm out of state.
What we actually do
Roof replacement, roof repair, storm and hail damage restoration, inspections, and metal roofing. Those five services are the business. Siding, seamless gutters, and exterior painting came later, and they came because they meet the roof — the flashing between a roof and a wall is shared work, and the places those systems intersect are where water problems almost always begin.
We are not a general remodeler that also does roofs. That distinction shows up in the details: whether the crew corrects your attic ventilation, whether the pipe boots get replaced or reused, whether anyone checks for kick-out flashing. Those are the things a roofing specialist does automatically.
How we price
Every estimate is line-item and names the actual materials. A single "roof system" number tells you nothing and makes it impossible to compare bids honestly, which is usually the point when a contractor writes one.
Decking replacement is the one thing that genuinely cannot be known before tear-off, so our estimates state the per-sheet price up front. That way it is a known number rather than a surprise negotiated from a position where you have no leverage and half a roof.
Service area
We work primarily across the Charlotte metro and surrounding areas — both the North Carolina and South Carolina sides, since the metro crosses the line. We will travel further into the Carolinas when the job warrants it.
What we do not publish is a list of towns or a mileage figure, because the honest answer depends on the job as much as the distance. Send us the address and we will tell you straight.
How we work
Four things we hold ourselves to
Diagnose before you sell
The estimate follows the inspection, not the other way around. If the honest answer is that you do not need a roof yet, that is what we write down.
Put it in writing
Line-item estimates, warranty terms in plain language, and the inspection photos in your hands. Nothing important stays verbal.
Do the parts nobody sees
Underlayment, flashing, ventilation, and deck repair are invisible once the shingles are on. They are also what determines whether the roof reaches its rated life.
Be here in year five
A 5-year craftsmanship warranty is only worth something if the company issuing it still exists in year four. We are local and intend to stay that way.
